I'm actually surprised (due to how the economy is)that the U.S. Army is experiencing a shortage of at least 80,000 recruits to bolster their military force. They would probably obviously get more people to join if they lifted the weight requirements a little bit. However, I understand at least one reason why there are weight requirements in order to be able to enlist andor go back in the military (i.e. regarding prior service).

 Regarding this draft article, As an American born woman who is happily married, I see nothing wrong with making women eligible under one condition; That the new rule would apply to women from all socio-economic classes. The reason being; I honorably served my time on active duty navy and from experience I understand that being in the military is a huge responsibility. I feel that shouldering such a life changing responsibility on just women from the middle and more modest socio-economic classes may seem like a quick fix in the short-term because of the dynamic related to men and the draft. However, long-term effects of only including women from middle and more modest socio-economic classes could do more harm than good for reasons I prefer to avoid saying because I know that I may unintentionally offend both women from the middle and upper socio-economic classes.

However, I could easily see how the U.S. government could leave the draft option for women on the table in the future if the military engagements in Afghanistant and Iraq were to continue (regardless of which political sides we are on).

  But Stella...they are also opening combat arms to women, and in a draft, you go where they send you. I'm sure you did a great job and I've known countless, highly-capable women in uniform...but not in the Infantry. Not in the Armor units. Not in front-line Field Artillery units. Not in Combat Engineers. Not in Recon units. Not in SOF. Some of the best Intel officers, nurses, doctors, etc. are women...but I don't want my daughter being stuck in the Infantry because some feminazi decided to push this evil agenda. I agree with a lot of what you wrote, but this entire social experiment is a double-edged sword.

I actually enjoy living where I am right now but I have my mind set on Virginia in the long-term due to the chance to purchase a completely paid for home for my husband and I  and the lower cost of living. Yet I am guessing that Trump's choice to fill his cabinet with a larger military presence could be an indirect way of changing andor shaking things up. After all, Trump did say that he was going to shake things up. It just so happens that his way of shaking things up is open for interpretation. In all fairness, there has not yet been enough time to gauge how the military appointees work out. Yet, I do think that it is a positive thing that there is at least an increased media discussion on the people who are going to be Donald Trump's advisers. Yes, I would still feel this way if Hillary Clinton would have won.
